Hamburg-based music producer and video artist Kymat explores the principle of cymatics – the science of visualizing sound in matter – wherein sound waves are translated into water ripples, forming intricately vibrating geometric shapes. His immersive performances that carry the audience into meditative spheres were celebrated at Art Basel Hongkong, Milan Design Week and Nuit Blanche in Paris.

In his latest series of performances, Kymat made music with plants, hooking them up to electrodes that transmit the minute electric currents emanating from the floral entities to a cymatics installation that displayed the detected frequencies and vibrations. The most common experience in a Kymat performance is an almost synesthetic notion of seeing with one’s ears and hearing with one’s eyes.
